Fellowships and Funding Offered by the Graduate School of Arts and Science

For information on fellowships and funding for PhD students offered by Columbia University, please see the following web sites:

  • Cost of attendance [ learn more ]
  • FAQ about how to apply for a Columbia Fellowship, how payments works and whether fellowships are taxable [ learn more ]
  • Information for Applicants on Awards, Loans and Employment [ learn more ]
  • Regulations Governing Awards explaining outside and teaching fellowships as well as explaining fellowship awards for International Students

Unfortunately, fellowship funding is not available for students in the non-sequential MA programs. Student applying for an MA degree may wish to read about Loans and Employment here and look into outside fellowships, see below.

Outside Fellowships

All applicants are encouraged to seek outside funding, both for prestige and financial reasons, and the Graduate School requires all PhD students with fellowships to apply for outside funding each year.
