The department is pleased to host Professor Benjamin Binstock of
Queens College and Professor Jacqueline Jung of the University of
California at Berkeley for an evening celebration of their work
on the recently published English language edition of Alois Riegl's
Historical Grammar of the Visual Arts. Professor Binstock
(Columbia Ph.D. 1997) and Professor Jung (Columbia Ph.D.
2002) will discuss the work of Riegl and the problems of translating
him, as well as larger issues of art history and translation. Professor
Jonathan Crary, co-editor of Zone Books, will moderate the event.
